Women, Peace and Security

In 2000, the United Nations Security Council produced the watershed Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security. Resolution 1325 stresses the importance of recognising the different gendered roles women and girls take on during conflict and the need to include them in all peacebuilding efforts.

We consider it of utmost importance that our projects are inclusive, sustainable and beneficial to all members of the community. Therefore, we ensure the participation of particularly women and girls in the project design and implementation.

We also provide gender- and women-specific interventions. Women’s rights and the denial of women to participate in local community positions has been an age-old culturally entrenched problem. IFACE engages the local communities and county authorities and through these different local engagements, the project communities in Grand Cape Mount, Bomi and Gbarpolu Counties saw the critical need of women and the significance of women’s leadership and/or roles in society. As a result of these vital engagements, an increased number of women were appointed in local communities as Town Chiefs, General Town Chiefs, and Paramount Chiefs.
