Peacebuilding and Reconciliation

IFACE has been involved in peacebuilding and reconciliation projects since its inception. The 14-year conflict in Liberia created and exposed inequalities and tensions around land ownership, land grasping, and tribalism. It left a critical need for peacebuilding support and reconciliation among different members of the communities we work with.

Since 2004, FACE has conducted various programmes and projects in Bomi, Grand Cape Mounty, Gbarpolu and Nimba counties geared towards reconciliation within communities, as well as the building of a positive, sustainable peace for all members of the community. As part of these efforts, IFACE also conducted sensitisation to support the community acceptance and reunification process of Children Associated with the Fighting Forces (CAFF).

Although Liberia has seen great progress towards peace and reconciliation since the end of the conflict, further work remains to be done and we are vigilant of further tensions that may arise from development work. We therefore ensure that our all our work is designed with further reconciliation and sustainable, inclusive peacebuilding in mind.
